About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services at Coastal Carolina University is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) unit, particularly focusing on academic support for student-athletes involved in football. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive academic service programs, ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations, and providing academic advising to help student-athletes achieve their academic goals and graduate successfully.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day program operations and services, policies and procedures, and staff or student-athlete academic services.
  • Provide leadership and management of staff to ensure compliance with existing university and campus procedures.
  • Evaluate staff performance, allocate work, provide effective training, and resolve problems.
  • Keep abreast of policies, regulations, and technology in higher education and formulate recommendations based on changes.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and updating of policies and procedures impacting student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion while promoting healthy work habits.
  • Assign advisors to teams for academic advising and communication with athletic personnel.
  • Develop and oversee the SAAS program budget.
  • Attend professional meetings, seminars, and conferences to enhance skills and expertise.
  • Lead academic advising efforts to ensure consistent processes for all student-athletes.
  • Ensure student-athletes and coaching staff are aware of academic holds prior to registration and assist in resolving issues.
  • Work with campus advisers to assist student-athletes with schedule changes, especially at the beginning of each term.
  • Communicate class schedules to coaches and support staff at the beginning of each term.
  • Review transcripts of transfer student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA transfer regulations.
  • Develop and implement individualized academic support plans for student-athletes.
  • Provide one-on-one academic assistance as needed and monitor academic progress of assigned student-athletes.
  • Maintain an accurate tracking system for assigned student-athletes' progress throughout the semester.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly monitoring programs for assigned student-athletes and communicate academic issues to supervisors.
  • Provide academic progress reports as requested and hold student-athletes accountable for their academic progress.
  • Maintain open contact with coaching staff, campus academic advisers, and administration.
  • Meet with recruits during on-campus visits to review available services and the admission process.
  • Assist with recruiting weekends and new student-athlete orientation activities.
  • Facilitate Summer Bridge programming and New Student-Athlete Orientation sessions.
  • Advocate for student-athletes and publicize their successes within the Coastal Carolina community.
  • Coordinate with the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance on NCAA reports.
  • Evaluate team travel schedules to monitor missed class time and advocate for appropriate travel/class attendance policies.
  • Update stakeholders regarding changes in CCU, Sun Belt Conference, and NCAA policies.
  • Serve on university committees to assist with strategic planning and program evaluation.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service delivery to all constituents.

Requirements

  • Master's degree.
  • At least five (5) years of related experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • A diverse understanding of issues affecting NCAA Division I student-athletes.
  • Experience working with student-athlete academic/student support services.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with benefits.
  • Salary range: $56,210.00 (minimum) - $80,105.00 (midpoint).
  • Normal work hours: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Flexible scheduling to meet the special needs of the university.
