About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Grades 6-8 at Milken Community Schools plays a crucial role in supporting the Middle School Athletic Director by managing and enhancing the athletic programs. This position focuses on collaboration with coaches, student-athletes, faculty, and staff to foster a positive and competitive sports environment, ensuring alignment with the school's educational and athletic philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the athletic department to plan, organize, and oversee athletic programs, events, and activities.
  • Assist in improving athletic programs by assessing coaching effectiveness and evaluating team performance.
  • Manage inventory of athletic equipment and uniforms, facilitating repair, replacement, and upgrades as needed.
  • Distribute and collect all uniforms for middle school sports.
  • Implement additional uniform items/spirit pack policy for practice gear.
  • Manage scheduling of practices and games for all middle school sports.
  • Organize equipment preparation and storage for all teams, including postseason inventory collection.
  • Coordinate venue setups with the operations department.
  • Attend weekly transportation meetings to review all needs.
  • Assist the athletic department with major events such as homecoming and open house.
  • Ensure coaches comply with certifications.
  • Serve as a point of contact for parents, students, and community members regarding athletic events, policies, and programs.
  • Promote athletic programs through school communications, social media, and website updates.
  • Compose correspondence regarding events and updates to teams and the community.
  • Attend SFVPSL athletic director meetings.
  • Maintain accurate rosters and confirm contests with opponent schools.
  • Ensure accuracy of the weekly calendar.
  • Be willing to step in to coach or supervise on the bus.
  • Assist in onboarding new coaches and coach at least one middle school season.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the athletic leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in athletic administration, education, sports management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year in athletic administration, coaching, or a related field, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Familiarity with the 'language of sport' required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information appropriately, including academic and health records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex team-oriented environment to accomplish department goals.
  • Willingness to help others in the department and throughout the school as necessary.
  • Maintain a 'solution conscious' attitude when faced with challenges.
  • Ability to follow and complete detailed verbal and written instructions within specified timeframes.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with speed and accuracy.
