About the position

The Associate Athletic Director of Development, Major Gifts at Syracuse University is a senior management role responsible for leading the major gifts fundraising team within the 'Cuse Athletics Fund. This position focuses on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and principal gift donors, particularly those capable of contributing $100,000 or more. The role requires strategic oversight and collaboration with various university units to effectively manage fundraising operations and support the athletic department's top priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the Interim Executive Director for the 'Cuse Athletics Fund to provide strategic oversight and management of the major gifts team.
  • Manage a portfolio of major and principal gift donors and prospects with an emphasis on $100,000 or above.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospects and donors to support Athletics top priorities.
  • Coordinate all aspects of major giving, including staff management, campaign strategy, marketing and communications, stewardship, and prospecting.
  • Collaborate with various units within University advancement and external affairs to ensure effective major gift operations.
  • Work with athletic department staff, including the Athletic Director and coaches, to set priorities and devise fundraising strategies, programs, and events.
  • Attend and provide appropriate staff support at athletic-related events at home and selected away games, championships, and/or tournaments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven plus years of demonstrated experience in successful fundraising, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Experience in Division I Athletics strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate private philanthropic support and close gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • General recognition of indicators of wealth and ability to engage in meaningful conversations with prospective donors.
  • Familiarity with planned or deferred gift instruments and ability to collaborate with Gift Planning Staff.
  • Knowledge of current issues in intercollegiate athletics and higher education.
  • Ability to perform confidential detailed work with accuracy under deadline pressure.
  • Mature and professional attitude with donor/client focus and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations impacting athletics interests.
