About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications at Alcorn State University is responsible for overseeing all aspects of electronic media production, strategic communications, public relations initiatives, and programming for the Brave Sports Network related to the university's intercollegiate sports. This role involves developing and implementing communication strategies that enhance the athletics brand and engage various stakeholders including students, alumni, and fans.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to promote Alcorn Athletics' brand.
  • Enhance and maintain public relations initiatives that engage students, alumni, fans, and sponsors.
  • Oversee the Brave Sports Network, coordinating game day production and managing video board content.
  • Produce and manage content for official Alcorn Athletics social media sites.
  • Maintain statistical data and historical records for all sports.
  • Hire and supervise staff including clock operators, statisticians, and public address announcers for selected sports.
  • Produce game day programs and maintain the Athletic website.
  • Establish and foster relationships with local sports reporters.
  • Provide media passes and seating for athletic events upon request.
  • Compile statistics and FAQs for all in-season sports events.
  • Supervise staff to provide game management for all sports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, sports management, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in a sports information environment.
  • Prior experience dealing with media on local, regional, and national levels; general journalism experience preferred.
