About the position

The Associate Athletic Director for Strategic Communications at Alcorn State University is responsible for overseeing all aspects of electronic media production, strategic communications, public relations initiatives, and programming related to the University's intercollegiate sports. This role aims to enhance the visibility and engagement of Alcorn Athletics through effective communication strategies and media management.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a strategic communications plan to promote the Alcorn Athletics brand.
  • Enhances and maintains public relations initiatives that engage students, alumni, fans, and sponsors.
  • Oversees the Brave Sports Network, coordinating game day production and managing video board content.
  • Produces and manages content for official Alcorn Athletics social media sites.
  • Maintains statistical data and historical records for all sports.
  • Hires and supervises staff including clock operators, statisticians, and public address announcers for selected sports.
  • Produces game day programs and maintains the Athletic website.
  • Establishes relationships with local sports reporters and provides media passes for athletic events.
  • Compiles statistics and FAQs for all in-season sports events.
  • Supervises staff to provide game management for all sports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, sports management, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in a sports information environment.
  • Prior experience dealing with media on local, regional, and national levels; general journalism experience preferred.
