About the position

Cullen and Dykman LLP is seeking an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join their construction labor litigation practice. The role involves representing clients in various phases of construction-related litigation, focusing on insurance defense matters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction law and insurance defense, with opportunities to work on high-profile cases and advance within the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in insurance defense matters related to construction accidents, labor disputes, and contractual issues.
  • Manage and litigate cases from inception through resolution, including pre-trial, discovery, motion practice, settlement negotiations, and trial.
  • Provide legal analysis and strategic advice to clients on construction-related risk management and compliance matters.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents such as complaints, answers, motions, and discovery responses.
  • Work closely with insurance adjusters, risk managers, expert witnesses, and other stakeholders to develop defense strategies.
  • Maintain and manage a caseload efficiently while meeting deadlines and client expectations.
  • Stay current on developments in construction law, insurance defense, and relevant regulations.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in NY; NJ bar is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in insurance defense, with a focus on construction labor litigation preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of construction law, including OSHA regulations, labor laws, and indemnity agreements.
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Proven track record in managing complex litigation and successfully representing clients in construction-related legal matters.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle a high-volume caseload.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in litigation outside of construction law.
  • Familiarity with risk management practices in the construction industry.
