About the position

Flatiron Construction Corp is expanding its operations in Texas, and we are seeking an Associate Business Development Manager to join our team. In this role, you will leverage your industry connections and relationships to identify potential project work in key markets across our Texas District. This position is crucial for driving growth and will involve close collaboration with clients, senior leadership, and key internal and external stakeholders. As an Associate Business Development Manager, you will develop project pursuit strategies in conjunction with Area Operational leadership, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy. You will actively participate in industry outreach and informational events to build local contacts and identify potential project opportunities for the company. Your role will also involve connecting with professional contacts to promote the company and its services. You will be responsible for identifying and assembling key internal personnel and subcontractor alliances to support pursuit efforts. Providing strategic input will be essential to help achieve shortlist selection and create responsive Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) submittals. You will organize a pursuit list and regularly communicate priorities and business development activities to the team and upper management. Maintaining connections with key owners and agencies in the relevant geographic area is vital, as is tracking and maintaining an accurate list of key pursuits and respective business development activities. You will identify opportunities in contract specifications to strategically utilize subcontract or Joint Venture (JV) partnerships to advance the company's goals. Additionally, you will prepare and negotiate designer agreements, subcontractor agreements, and Joint Venture (JV) agreements using company-approved processes and documentation. Promoting the company and embodying its values and ethics in all interactions with personal and professional contacts is a key expectation. You will submit forecast reports on prospective project work to District or Corporate Operational leadership to ensure alignment with the business model and company strategies. Overseeing and supporting the collection and creation of proposal documents during all phases of the pursuit process will ensure that the final product meets market quality standards and includes all required aspects of the request. You will also maintain knowledge of the company's values and strategic plan and perform additional assignments as directed by management.

Responsibilities

  • Develops project pursuit strategy with Area Operational leadership for assigned division supporting corporate strategy.
  • Attends and participates in industry outreach and informational events to gain local contacts and identify possible project work for the Company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • 4+ years' proposal experience for a construction, engineering or design firm required.
  • Heavy civil infrastructure construction industry experience preferred.
  • Able to identify, prioritize, organize and track construction projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to initiate and develop personal and professional relationships in the industry.
  • Proven leadership skills used to identify key internal personnel and drive the pursuit efforts forward while maintaining the ultimate needs of the Owner.
  • Strong personal and Company branding skills.
  • Proven contract negotiation skills preferred.
  • Able to identify inconsistencies or outliers in contract specifications that could increase Company risk or expense.
  • Proven ability to identify measure and facilitate the needs of the Owner during the pre-bid, bid and project phases.
