About the position

The Associate Business Intelligence Analyst position at Thrivent is an entry-level role focused on obtaining, developing, and analyzing data to derive insights that support fact-based decision-making. The analyst will work closely with peers and supervisors to define specific hypotheses and questions that need evaluation. This role is essential in helping consumers make informed financial choices by providing them with the necessary data and insights. The analyst will be responsible for visually depicting data in various formats and maintaining documentation of data usage to ensure clarity and accessibility. In this position, the analyst will collaborate with team leaders to develop plans for evaluating hypotheses under the guidance of supervisory personnel. They will be tasked with obtaining, discovering, and preparing data for analysis, as well as evaluating and modeling data using basic statistical methods. The role also involves preparing reports that summarize findings for consumption leaders, along with supporting details that can help in strategic decision-making. The analyst will partner with peers and supervisors to develop actionable insights that can be readily implemented, ensuring that the data-driven recommendations are practical and beneficial. Additionally, the analyst will work with information technology and subject matter experts to understand the data environment, address data quality issues, and drive the resolution of any discrepancies that may arise. This collaborative approach is vital for ensuring that the insights generated are accurate and reliable, ultimately contributing to Thrivent's mission of helping people achieve financial clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with peers and team leaders to define specific hypothesis/questions to evaluate and analyze.
  • Develop plans to evaluate hypothesis/questions under the direction of supervisory personnel.
  • Obtain, discover and prepare data for analysis.
  • Evaluate/model data utilizing accepted basic statistical methods.
  • Prepare reports summarizing findings for consumption leaders along with supporting detail.
  • Partner with peers and supervisory personnel to develop actionable insights that can be readily implemented.
  • Work with information technology and subject matter experts to understand data environment, data quality issues, and drive the resolution of discrepancies.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent experience required, ideally in mathematics, business, statistics, information systems or related field.
  • Beginning skills using analytics tools such as SAS, SPSS, Minitab, R, etc.
  • Beginning skills in application of simple statistical methodology (TTEST, significance testing).
  • Beginning skills in using database and data warehouse environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Access and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational, planning and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a stated objective.
  • Ability to utilize technology to create reports and/or secure information necessary for decision making.
