About the position

The Associate Chancellor and Chief of Staff (AC CoS) at the University of California, Berkeley serves as an executive advisor to the Chancellor, managing the operations of the Chancellor's Immediate Office. This role involves strategic advising, overseeing sensitive and confidential matters, and collaborating with various stakeholders to support the Chancellor's goals and initiatives. The AC CoS is responsible for leading significant projects, providing expert counsel, and ensuring effective communication and resource allocation within the Chancellor's Office.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as strategic advisor and change agent for the Chancellor, providing counsel and expertise.
  • Anticipate and mitigate sensitive issues with ethical grounding and political acumen.
  • Represent the Chancellor in various highly sensitive meetings and committees.
  • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of broad impacting initiatives and key projects.
  • Manage the operations and facilities of University House and California Hall.
  • Provide analysis, recommendations, and counsel to the Chancellor on wide-ranging issues.
  • Ensure appropriate preparation and staffing for the Chancellor for all meetings.

Requirements

  • Significant years of experience with progressive increase of responsibility and leadership in a complex environment.
  • Excellent project management and change leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated political acumen to advise and navigate highly sensitive situations.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, project planning, and implementation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with UC Berkeley structure and processes.
  • Advanced degree.
