About the position

The Associate Chemist & Chemical Engineer position at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory involves significant responsibility and hands-on experience in reactor plant engineering support. The role includes a 1-2 year assignment at either the Knolls or Bettis Laboratory, followed by a 3-5 year assignment in the Field Engineering Program at a shipyard. The position is designed to provide candidates with experience in fleet support engineering, focusing on problem resolution and improvement initiatives for naval nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering support and independent oversight of reactor plant systems, components, and safety systems.
• Engage in nuclear work and operations, applying sound engineering principles and judgment.
• Support installation, reactor servicing, testing, and modification of reactor plant systems.
• Participate in problem resolution and improvement initiatives for aircraft carrier and submarine platforms.
• Complete job-specific qualifications and training at the Knolls or Bettis Laboratory.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a science-related field from an accredited college or university; or a Master's degree in a related field.
• Strong leadership and mentoring ability.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to varying tasks and responsibilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while supporting team goals.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a technical support role.
• Familiarity with naval nuclear propulsion systems.
