About the position

The Associate Chief Information Officer for Research IT at Missouri University of Science and Technology is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing research information technology services. This position involves managing the S&T IT Research Support Solutions team to enhance and maintain technology services that support high-performance computing, data storage, cloud services, and information security, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic vision and research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the S&T IT Research Support Solutions team in the implementation and maintenance of research-focused technology services.
  • Advance and maintain research technology including high-performance computing, data repositories, and cloud services.
  • Develop strategies for the implementation of emerging technologies and trends.
  • Guide Research IT efforts in alignment with the university's strategic vision.
  • Communicate research technology strategies and operational plans to stakeholders.
  • Supervise staff, external vendors, and project teams, determining staffing needs and hiring activities.
  • Establish partnerships with research centers and academic units to provide necessary tools and infrastructure.
  • Implement solutions to streamline support processes and improve efficiency.
  • Regularly communicate with university leadership regarding plans, budgets, and projects.
  • Maintain an active professional profile through scholarly writing and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Seven or more years of senior managerial experience in IT.
  • Ability to secure a secret clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
  • Proven skills in project management and experience in complex environments.
  • Experience in building a research computing environment that supports Confidential Unclassified Information (CUI).
