About the position

The Associate Chief Information Officer for Research IT at the University of Missouri-Columbia is a leadership role responsible for overseeing research information technology services. This position involves managing the Research Support Solutions team to enhance and maintain technology services that support high-performance computing, data storage, cloud services, and information security for faculty, researchers, and students. The role requires strategic planning, collaboration with academic units, and the development of technology strategies aligned with the university's mission and research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Research Support Solutions team in the implementation and maintenance of research-focused technology services.
  • Advance and maintain research technology including high-performance computing, data repositories, and cloud services.
  • Guide Research IT efforts according to the University's strategic vision and develop operational plans.
  • Supervise high-performance computing staff and external vendors, determining staffing needs and developing metrics for decision making.
  • Establish partnerships with the Division of Research and academic units to ensure access to necessary tools and infrastructure.
  • Communicate regularly with university leadership about plans, budgets, and projects.
  • Maintain a professional network and participate in regional and national conferences.
  • Collaborate on proposals to secure funding from grants and other sources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ten or more years of progressively increased job responsibility relevant to research computing.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Proven leadership experience with technical staff.
  • Experience leading an organization through transformational change.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years in a management/leadership position.
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
  • Experience in higher education.
