About the position

The Associate CIO for Research IT is a key leadership role at the University of Missouri, responsible for providing research information technology services. This position involves leading the Research Support Solutions team to implement and maintain research-focused technology services, including high-performance computing, networking, data storage, and cloud services, while aligning with the university's strategic vision.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Research Support Solutions team in the identification, procurement, implementation, maintenance, configuration, and customization of research-focused technology services.
  • Advance, facilitate, and maintain research technology to serve the needs of university faculty, researchers, and students.
  • Guide Research IT efforts according to the University's strategic vision and direction.
  • Develop and communicate research technology strategies, roadmaps, and operational plans in line with the University's mission and research goals.
  • Supervise and support high-performance computing staff, external vendors, and project teams.
  • Determine staffing needs, perform hiring activities, and devise staffing plans based on budgetary constraints.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with the Division of Research, Innovation, and Impact, and academic units.
  • Regularly communicate and collaborate with University and IT leadership about plans, budgets, issues, and projects.
  • Maintain an appropriate network of professional contacts and participate in regional and national conferences.
  • Write or collaborate on proposals to secure extra-mural funding.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten or more years of progressively increased job responsibility relevant to research computing.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrable ability to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Proven track record of leadership of technical staff.
  • Demonstrated proficiency leading an organization through transformational change.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years in a management/leadership position.
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Business Administration.
  • Higher education experience preferred.
  • Experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities.
