About the position

The Associate Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) is responsible for leading and executing strategic IT initiatives that align with UCR's Information Technology Services (ITS) goals. This senior leadership role involves overseeing a team of IT professionals to deliver a comprehensive range of IT products and services, including application services, infrastructure, networking, and information security. The Associate CIO collaborates with various stakeholders to develop systems that meet the operational demands of clinical practice sites and manages innovative IT solutions that support the educational, research, and clinical missions of the SOM.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute strategic IT initiatives for the School of Medicine in alignment with UCR ITS goals.
  • Oversee a team of IT professionals to deliver and implement IT products and services.
  • Chair committees to evaluate and select advanced technologies and oversee IT security.
  • Develop systems to meet operational demands of clinical practice sites across a 220-mile region.
  • Manage technology services including network resources, classroom technology, and web-based resources.
  • Plan, develop, deploy, and maintain research technologies and services.
  • Provide leadership in planning, designing, developing, installing, and maintaining hardware and software services.
  • Develop and implement IT policies and protocols, ensuring structured roll-outs of new systems and applications.
  • Direct risk assessments and implement strategies to address risks.
  • Interface regularly with SOM Senior Leadership, UCR Health Leadership, and ITS leadership to ensure collaboration and alignment with UCR's IT strategy.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in IT leadership roles, preferably in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Strong understanding of systems and technologies used by medical schools and clinical enterprises.
  • Experience with EMR systems such as EPIC and other relevant platforms.
  • Excellent change management and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement IT policies and protocols.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud technologies and custom systems.
  • Familiarity with medical education technologies and curriculum management systems.
