About the position

The Associate Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of California, Riverside, is a senior leadership role responsible for leading and executing strategic IT initiatives in alignment with UCR's goals. This position oversees a team of IT professionals and manages a comprehensive range of IT products and services, including application services, infrastructure, networking, and information security. The Associate CIO collaborates with senior leadership to ensure the effective implementation of technology solutions that support the educational, research, and clinical missions of the SOM.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the analysis of functional department needs and establish priorities for feasibility studies and systems design.
  • Manage the safeguarding of student information and ensure adherence to FERPA regulations.
  • Plan and implement critical technology services across various practice sites.
  • Manage electronic health record systems and other health technologies across multiple platforms.
  • Oversee help desk services for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Lead the planning, development, deployment, and maintenance of research technologies and services.
  • Collaborate with the CMIO to oversee UCR Health EMR systems like EPIC.
  • Develop and implement IT policies and protocols, ensuring structured roll-outs of new systems and applications.
  • Conduct ongoing risk assessments and implement strategies to mitigate risks.
  • Advise senior management on technology-related matters and compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10 - 15 years of related experience in IT leadership, preferably in a medical or healthcare environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Information Technology principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Experience in managing IT operations for clinical services and understanding HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong change management and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.
  • Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) certification.
