About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for Primary Care Service Line provides essential administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership to ensure the achievement of clinical and educational goals within the Primary Care Service Line. This role is pivotal in supporting the Medical Center Director and the Chief of Staff, and the incumbent is expected to engage in hands-on clinical work while overseeing the administration of all aspects of the service, including a comprehensive research program and the training of residents and other trainees. In this position, the ACOS will directly manage and oversee clinical and administrative operations across the primary care services located throughout the Fayetteville Coastal Health Care System. Reporting directly to the Chief of Staff, the ACOS will be responsible for monitoring, reviewing, and assigning healthcare providers' workloads, ensuring clinical effectiveness and efficiency, coordinating work schedules, and maintaining accountability for clinical performance measures. Collaboration with other leaders within the primary care service line and the broader organization is essential to optimize resources and deliver effective patient care. The ACOS will also participate in various administrative, management, quality assurance, and committee activities as necessary. The role requires a commitment to providing direct patient care, with a minimum expectation of 10%-20% of the incumbent's time dedicated to this responsibility, which may vary based on organizational needs. The ACOS is expected to remain privileged and actively practice in their specialty field, providing compassionate and effective patient care while demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and judgment. Interpersonal and communication skills are crucial for establishing and maintaining professional relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members. The ACOS must also exhibit professionalism, a commitment to continuous professional development, and an understanding of the diverse needs of patients and the healthcare system. Overall, the ACOS is accountable for delivering effective administrative oversight and care throughout the medical center, ensuring compliance with standards for the Primary Care Service Line.

Responsibilities

  • Direct management and oversight of clinical and administrative operations within the primary care services.
  • Monitor, review, and assign healthcare providers' workload and clinical performance measures.
  • Coordinate work schedules and ensure clinical effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Work closely with other leaders to optimize resources and deliver effective patient care.
  • Participate in administrative, management, quality assurance, and committee activities as necessary.
  • Provide hands-on clinical work, ensuring compassionate and effective patient care.
  • Remain privileged and practicing in their specialty field, providing expert consultation in health promotion and disease prevention.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
