About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) of Specialty Care at the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System is a senior management role responsible for leading the Specialty Care Service. This position ensures the quality of specialty care services, oversees the education and training of professional staff, and maintains the safety and ethical conduct of medical research. The ACOS collaborates with various service lines and community partners to enhance patient care and operational efficiency across multiple outpatient clinics serving veterans in the Pacific region.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement performance measures and programs for Specialty Care Service.
  • Manage resources effectively to ensure quality patient care.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes within the Specialty Care Service.
  • Directly supervise faculty and staff within the Specialty Care Service.
  • Collaborate with community outpatient clinic chiefs to improve service delivery.
  • Participate in strategic and operational planning for the Medical Center.
  • Set long and short-term goals for the Specialty Care Service and organization.
  • Evaluate medical staff performance through FPPE and OPPE processes.
  • Maintain a clinical workload consistent with medical specialty privileges.
  • Chair and participate in Medical Center and VISN committees and workgroups.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for patient services.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.
  • Manage resource allocation for the Specialty Care Service.

Requirements

  • Must hold a full and unrestricted medical license from any US State or territory.
  • Experience in a senior management role within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes and performance measures in healthcare.
  • Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders including community partners and educational institutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Board certification in a relevant medical specialty.
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense or similar organizations.
  • Familiarity with VA healthcare systems and policies.
