About the position

The Associate Civil Engineer will support regulatory compliance projects, particularly focusing on water quality monitoring and microplastics sampling. This role involves fieldwork, data compilation, and assisting in the development of predictive analytics dashboards to enhance operational efficiency at various treatment plants.

Responsibilities

  • Support critical regulatory compliance projects, including microplastics sampling.
  • Assist with the implementation of the filter monitoring and inspection program, including collecting water samples and performing filter floc retention analysis.
  • Contribute to the development of operational and water quality data dashboards for predictive analytics.
  • Perform fieldwork at water treatment plants, reservoirs, or creeks.
  • Assist water quality engineers with studies to optimize treatment processes and prevent water quality violations.
  • Support source water management projects by complying with regulatory sampling and monitoring requirements.
  • Compile operational data and update Excel tables and charts.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.
  • Valid CA driver's license.
  • Knowledge of water quality monitoring and analysis.
  • Experience working with operations, maintenance, and/or field staff.
  • Understanding of water treatment, water chemistry, and process engineering.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications for completing work assignments.
  • Basic laboratory skills, including measuring pH, chlorine residual, and turbidity.
  • Basic programming knowledge (e.g., VBA Script in Excel, Matlab, R-code).
  • Familiarity with drinking water regulations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bench-top or pilot study experience is preferred.
