About the position

Parsons Corporation has an exciting new opportunity for an Associate Civil Transportation Engineer to work with design engineering of road and highway systems supporting Caltrans, City of San Diego, and County of San Diego primarily for public works transportation projects in the San Diego area. In this role, you will perform a variety of engineering duties by applying basic engineering techniques and analyses within one discipline. The Engineer at this level is in a developmental mode, being trained under close supervision in the utilization of engineering theories and practices, and gaining exposure to Company procedures. This position may involve a structured rotational program which would include experience in Project Controls, Procurement, and Construction Management, as well as through several disciplines in Engineering. Some assignments will involve CAE (computer aided engineering) and CAD (computer aided design) applications. A willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations is expected. This position is open to new graduates from a Civil Engineering Degree program, and remote hybrid work is allowed for this position, meaning the ability to work from home 1-2 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Microstation and/or Autocad Civil 3D CAD software to perform geometric alignments for road, highway, and other transportation projects in Southern California.
  • Perform various engineering and design assignments requiring the application of basic principles and fundamental theories studied in a four-year university engineering program, and available data in the engineering field.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing fundamental engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed requisitions for material purchase, services, and subcontracts.
  • Under the guidance of a more senior engineer, assist in reviewing supplier drawing submittals and technical bid analyses.
  • Assist in the preparation and issuance of specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Provide input to CAD Designer/Drafters working on the same project.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) and 0-3 years of related work experience with transportation systems design (EIT) is highly desirable.
  • Some previous internships experience for new graduates is highly desirable.
  • EIT is a plus, but not required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous internships in civil engineering or related fields.
  • Familiarity with CAE and CAD applications.
