About the position

The Associate Civil Engineer position at East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) focuses on project and construction management within the Wastewater Department. This temporary role involves supporting the implementation of a $320 million Capital Improvement Program, primarily as a construction manager for complex wastewater infrastructure projects. The position offers opportunities to gain experience in both construction and design management, particularly in wastewater treatment plant upgrades and infrastructure rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the project construction phase by preparing and understanding construction contract documents, reviewing submittals, negotiating change orders, and managing the overall project budget, scope, and schedule.
  • Managing the project design phase by preparing and administering consultant contracts, developing scope, budget, and schedule, and reviewing engineering calculations and technical memoranda.
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks, resolving key issues, and developing construction documents.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited civil, electrical or mechanical engineering curriculum OR a California EIT certificate.
  • Two years of civil or mechanical experience at the EBMUD's Assistant Engineer classification.
  • California registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil, Electrical or Mechanical).
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Possession of the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the position.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in management of a variety of design and construction projects for water or wastewater treatment facilities.
