About the position

The County of Riverside's Department of Waste Resources is seeking multiple Associate Civil Engineers to manage and oversee engineering operations related to active landfills. The role involves directing office engineering personnel, handling regulatory compliance, and performing complex engineering assessments to enhance operational efficiency. The position is pivotal in ensuring the effective management of public works projects and the overall safety and environmental protection of the community.

Responsibilities

• Assign work and give instructions to engineering personnel.
• Resolve difficult engineering and administrative problems related to landfill operations.
• Direct activities of office engineering staff in analyzing field data and preparing necessary construction documents.
• Perform regulatory permitting and compliance for landfill operations.
• Engage in long-range planning and design for public works construction projects.
• Conduct staff training and development initiatives.
• Perform complex engineering assessments to improve operational efficiency.
• Provide technical information to governmental officials, engineers, and the public.

Requirements

• Experience in civil engineering fundamentals, particularly in surveying, hydrology, hydraulics, geotechnical, and environmental control in landfill settings.
• Supervisory experience over field staff, including equipment operators and supervisory personnel.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as Microstation, InRoads, AutoCAD, Civil3D, and MS Projects.
• Familiarity with GIS software, particularly Arcview GIS.
• Experience using survey equipment like GPS and Sokkia TotalStation.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with mapping software such as Prolink or similar.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in landfill operations.
