The Associate Conservator position at the Conservation Center in Los Angeles, CA, is a full-time role that reports to the Senior Conservator of Painting. The Associate Conservator will also restore lacunae through different filling and inpainting methods, undertake surface treatments, and recommend structural treatments such as tear repair and lining. Staying current with research in the conservation field is essential to promote treatments that adhere to the highest standards. In addition to hands-on conservation work, the Associate Conservator will interact with the Science and Photography sections to analyze and document paintings before and during treatment. They will write comprehensive examination reports, treatment proposals, and final reports that explain findings and procedures to the Senior Conservator and curators. The role also includes collaborating with other departments in planning exhibitions and loans, preparing condition reports, and possibly undertaking courier duties. The Associate Conservator will help propose annual budgets for treatment and contribute to the upkeep of spaces, conduct tours, give lectures, and publish research in professional journals.
