About the position

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (Metro) serves 98 stations with 130 miles of track, 1,500 daily buses, and paratransit service across the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region. The Infrastructure Department executes the construction, inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation of all fixed assets through the Authority. The Department is also responsible for the delivery of Metro’s Capital Improvement Projects currently valued at $12.4 billion over six years. Join Infrastructure as an Associate Construction Project Manager to support a variety of capital, maintenance, and state of good repair projects gaining exposure to a multitude of career pathways in project planning, project management, construction management, engineering, maintenance, and project controls. This entry-level job will work with experienced team members to perform professional, analytical, and technical work. We are looking for candidates with interest in a range of responsibilities such as reviewing maintenance schedules, evaluating risks, performing early project planning, maintaining project costs, analyzing asset performance, collecting data, preparing work schedules, coordinating responses to requests for information, coordinating scope of work projects, and performing other tasks as assigned. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, work with a team, take initiative, and execute challenging assignments. Infrastructure is seeking Associate Construction Project Managers for multiple current and future vacancies across a variety of teams, projects, assets, stages of capital programming, and discipline areas.

Responsibilities

  • Support coordination of scope of work (SOW) reviews.
  • Prepare cost estimates based on final designs.
  • Coordinate technical review of shop drawings for constructability and conflicts.
  • Assist project managers in the day-to-day operations of projects, managing costs, schedules, and quality.
  • Attend construction coordination meetings and draft project-related correspondence for review by the project management team.
  • Take meeting minutes, perform research and outreach, and develop presentations depicting project achievements and challenges.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of construction records and reports; draft progress summaries, memoranda, and briefs regarding status and delays.
  • Gather information and respond to requests for project status from internal stakeholders.
  • Use analytical skills and independent research to provide additional business and technical acumen to support effective documentation of progress and status.
  • Conduct preliminary review of design changes, requests for information, and make recommendations for changes in work plan resulting from claims and supplemental agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or Construction Technology related discipline.
  • No prior civil engineering or construction project implementation experience required, but is preferred.
  • Roadway Worker Protection (RWP) Certification, Level 2, within six (6) months of hire and maintained for the duration of time in this job.
  • Driver's License / ability to obtain driver's license and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for the position, if required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Some experience in a construction implementation environment.
