About the position

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Consultant, Civil Engineer for our Providence, Rhode Island office. This role involves being actively engaged in projects with our Northeast Civil Highway Team, contributing to a growing organization that is dedicated to meeting client objectives and solving their challenges. As an Associate Consultant, you will serve as the Civil/Roadway task lead on smaller projects and provide support for larger, more complex projects. You will be responsible for key project elements, independent assignments, or working as a team member throughout all phases of transportation project design and construction. Your role will include planning, scheduling, coordinating, and overseeing the work of junior-level staff, technicians, administrative staff, and draftspersons. Proficiency in software such as Microstation OpenRoads Designer and/or Civil3D is preferred. You will also support senior staff with client relations and technical presentations, collaborating with other engineers and planners on projects involving infrastructure authorities. It is essential to exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as required by business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Civil/Roadway task lead on smaller projects and support larger complex projects.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the work of junior-level staff, technicians, administrative staff, and draftspersons.
  • Support senior staff with client relations and technical presentations.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Highly familiar with relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
