About the position

The Associate Corporate Counsel at Avantor plays a critical role in supporting the company's legal needs by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. This position ensures compliance with business terms, regulations, and company policies while effectively communicating across various functions to resolve contracting issues. The role requires strong analytical skills and sound judgment to address contractual challenges and contribute to the overall success of Avantor's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and revise agreements under tight deadlines, including routine sales agreements and non-standard agreements for various stakeholders.
  • Learn and analyze Avantor's contracting policies to ensure compliance in agreements.
  • Escalate complex legal and factual issues to senior attorneys and assist in their resolution.
  • Create, implement, and manage systems for efficient contract creation, negotiation, oversight, and execution.
  • Coordinate contract negotiations across multiple departments.
  • Obtain necessary internal approvals for contract terms and provisions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements in contract management.
  • Perform file management and records retention duties.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to Contracts Specialists within the department.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit by giving and welcoming constructive feedback.

Requirements

  • JD required; current license to practice law required.
  • Minimum 8 years of legal experience required.
  • Working to expert knowledge of contracting and legal concepts and terms.
  • Strong background in contract preparation and/or review required.
  • Experience in project management and execution on multi-departmental projects is a plus.
  • Advanced abilities for contract negotiation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the life sciences industry preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, as well as good presentation, leadership, and team-building abilities.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally within a large organization.
