About the position

The Customer Service & Patient Collections Associate at Boston Children's Hospital is responsible for managing patient inquiries related to billing issues through various communication channels. This role involves collecting outstanding balances, updating patient information, and ensuring compliance with regulations while maintaining confidentiality. The associate will also research inquiries, communicate findings to patients, and alert management of recurring issues to help develop solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and resolve patient inquiries via telephone, mail, and electronic messaging regarding billing issues.
  • Collect outstanding balances and update demographic and insurance information during patient contacts.
  • Research inquiries to resolution using various sources, including contacting insurance companies.
  • Communicate responses to patients accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Alert management of recurring billing trends and assist in developing solutions.
  • Verify insurance eligibility using available technologies and payor websites.
  • Collect and assign referrals received via telephone, fax, or electronically.
  • Review PCP and self-pay exceptions report and resolve issues.
  • Follow established regulations and procedures in the collection and handling of information.
  • Ensure required documentation of issues is complete, accurate, timely, and legible.
  • Protect and preserve confidentiality and integrity of all information according to HIPAA policy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of experience is required.
  • Analytical skills to resolve problems using basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide empathy and compassion in stressful situations.
  • Customer service orientation with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
