About the position

The Associate Dean/Director of the School of Nursing at Idaho State University College of Health is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing programs, managing faculty and staff, and ensuring academic excellence in nursing education. This position involves strategic planning, budget management, and collaboration with various university departments to enhance the quality of nursing education and support the mission of the College of Health.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the development of faculty and staff and creates a collegial culture of mutual respect and accountability.
  • Supports a focus on a high level of excellence for all programs, including those requiring accreditation, in the School of Nursing.
  • Champions nursing students and serves as a student advocate.
  • Manages and monitors the School of Nursing budget in support of program excellence.
  • Effective strategic and operational planning to meet challenges in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
  • Collaborates with the Dean of the COH and the Divisional Vice President on program development, expansion, and support for new initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with other deans and non-academic units of the university (ie Student Affairs, Facilities, Human Resources, and Finance).
  • Supports programs of extramural funding that advance nursing scholarship, innovative service delivery, and pedagogy.
  • Teaches in nursing curriculum as appropriate.
  • Oversees curriculum development and assessment including online course delivery, engaged learning, simulation, and use of instructional state of the art technology.
  • Monitors and maintains School of Nursing annual program evaluation for components of curriculum and program outcomes.
  • Completes accreditation reports for components of curriculum and student-specific program outcomes.
  • Supports a focus on innovation and excellence for all programs, students, staff, and faculty that align with and enhance ISU's, COH's, and the school's mission, vision, and culture.
  • Engages in development work and philanthropy in support of nursing scholarships, faculty and program development, and other initiatives.
  • Develops and sustains external and internal partnerships in support of the School of Nursing, including alumni relations.
  • Experience working with diverse groups and stakeholders.
  • Supports Idaho State University's statewide mission and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution (ie PhD, DNP, EdD, DSc, etc.).
  • Eligible for a RN license in Idaho.
  • A well-established and progressive record of scholarly work and peer-reviewed publications consistent with the appointment rank of associate professor or higher at Idaho State University.
  • Experience with workload assessment and allocation.
  • A history of extramural funding.
  • At least two years previous experience directing an undergraduate or graduate program in nursing.
  • At least two years budget creation and management experience.
  • At least two years assessing programmatic and student learning outcomes.
  • Outstanding communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to an inclusive and communicative environment where diverse perspectives are valued.
  • Commitment to building necessary partnerships in support of excellence.
  • Experience with strategic planning, accreditation (e.g., CCNE), and program development.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least five years previous experience directing an undergraduate or graduate program in nursing.
  • Experience as Associate Dean or Dean or equivalent rank.
  • A well-established and progressive record of scholarly work and peer-reviewed publications consistent with the appointment rank of professor at Idaho State University.
  • Past record of grants to support program growth, facilities upgrades/improvements, or nursing workforce development.
