About the position

The Associate Design Engineer II - Electrical position at Fluor is designed for new graduates who are eager to apply their engineering knowledge in a practical setting. This role is pivotal in supporting the Area Lead or Lead on assigned projects, where the engineer will engage in routine engineering assignments that require a foundational understanding of design engineering principles. The primary objective of this position is to enhance Fluor's competitiveness in the global marketplace by delivering high-quality services characterized by unmatched value and technical competence. In this role, the engineer will perform and check routine calculations, specify simple equipment, and address problems of basic engineering complexity. A significant part of the job involves reviewing vendor equipment documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and actively seeking resolutions for any discrepancies. The engineer will also monitor material estimates and quantities, participating in equipment and material procurement activities to ensure project needs are met efficiently. Adherence to industry codes and standards, as well as departmental practices and procedures, is crucial. The engineer will analyze problems of varying complexity and make independent recommendations that align with organizational and project objectives. Effective organization and prioritization of multiple projects and tasks are essential, as is the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. The role may also include other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the engineering team and the projects undertaken by Fluor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and check routine calculations, specify simple equipment, and solve problems of simple engineering complexity.
  • Review vendor equipment documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution.
  • Monitor material estimates and quantities; participate in equipment and material procurement activities.
  • Adhere to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures.
  • Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines.
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and one (1) year of work-related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Engineer-in-Training achievement status accomplished.
  • Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials.
  • Practical field experience.
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs.
