About the position

The Associate Designer at Funko is responsible for designing and creating artwork for various product lines while ensuring alignment with the Funko brand aesthetic. This role requires collaboration with other designers, sculptors, and project managers, and involves minimal art direction. The Associate Designer will report to the Art Directors and will be expected to take initiative in understanding the brand and producing high-quality designs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create artwork for a variety of products and lines.
  • Collaborate daily with other Designers, Sculptors, Packaging Artists, and Project Managers.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the POP rules and stylization for product creation.
  • Communicate progress of work to production staff and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Organize and store all artwork appropriately.
  • Create and present innovative ideas to enhance visual concepts and designs when requested.
  • Conduct vital research and planning for ongoing Funko projects.
  • Demonstrate strong drawing skills and understanding of anatomy and perspective.
  • Create detailed turns of characters to display design work.
  • Maintain ownership of work from concept through final delivery.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of related experience as a Concept Artist or Designer in character design and/or toy development.
  • A Bachelor's of Applied Arts Degree or related business experience is highly recommended.
  • Thorough design foundation including knowledge of perspective, composition, painting, lighting, and color theory.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other graphic editing/design software.
  • Experience with ZBrush is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Knowledge of current trends in gaming, art, pop culture, and design.
