About the position

The Associate Developer, IT Applications role at American Airlines is focused on developing and supporting web-based, mobile-aware, cloud-based Java applications and web services. This position is part of an agile team that collaborates with various stakeholders to understand requirements and development needs, while also providing opportunities for skill enhancement and career growth.

Responsibilities

• Create new applications and maintain current applications, including bug fixes, feature enhancements, and performance tuning.
• Research and implement new technology to enhance current processes, security, and performance.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex issues; identify and implement solutions.
• Work with a team to create detailed project specifications, requirements, and estimates, ensuring tasks/projects are completed on time and within scope.
• Ensure smooth deployments and provide appropriate support to customer groups.
• Document validation of design decisions.
• Support the enforcement of policy and procedural changes within the development group.
• Support the development of coding standards and adhere to best practices and security guidelines.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Provide on-call production support on rotation with teammates.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Technology, Information Systems, Engineering or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience/training.
• 2 years total development experience.
• 1 year web application or services experience.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of object-oriented programming, common data structures and algorithms, design patterns and best practices.
• Basic to intermediate development skills in a cloud-based environment like Kubernetes and Azure.
• Basic to intermediate development skills with Java, Spring-Boot, Spring Cloud, NextJs, React, HTML5, CSS, Node, Angular, SOAP/REST.
• Knowledge of DevOps Toolchain tools like Github, Github Actions, ADO, Terraform, relational and NoSQL databases (Cosmos, Redis, PostgreSQL).
• Excellent prioritization and time management skills.
• Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-haves

• 2+ years of total development experience.
• 2+ years of web application experience.
• Airline Industry experience.
• Knowledge of TDD and automated testing (Junit, Playwright, Selenium, JMeter).
• Knowledge of diagnostics tools (SOAPUI, SonarQube, Coverity, Dynatrace, Mezmo, Azure Analytics).
• Cloud-based development in PaaS and CaaS platforms like Kubernetes and/or Azure.
