About the position

The Associate Developer (Java) position at Expeditors is a full-time role focused on enhancing and maintaining mission-critical system applications, particularly the Customs Product (CFIT). The customs development teams play a vital role in supporting global operations and ensuring compliance within the logistics industry. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that values professionalism, leadership, and innovation. As an Associate Java Developer, you will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and coding solutions that improve the efficiency of high transaction-based applications. Your contributions will directly impact the company's ability to remain competitive in the market and adapt to evolving regulations. In this role, you will be expected to develop a strong understanding of logistics and the technical skills necessary to support the development of applications. The position requires a customer service-oriented attitude, as you will be working closely with team members and stakeholders to deliver best-in-class results. The work environment is on-site in the greater Seattle, WA area, with locations available in Downtown Seattle, Federal Way, Lynnwood, and Bellevue (Factoria). Candidates must be local or willing to relocate, as relocation assistance is not provided for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, and code solutions to streamline and improve efficiency of high transaction-based applications.
  • Maintain and enhance mission-critical system applications such as CFIT.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver best-in-class results in support of global operations and compliance efforts.
  • Develop a strong understanding of logistics and the technical skills necessary for application development.

Requirements

  • Experienced in at least one Object Oriented language.
  • Strong object-oriented design and development skills.
  • Knowledgeable about Java topics such as web services and database connectivity.
  • Familiar with developing applications using object-relational mapping frameworks such as Hibernate.
  • Ability to write statements using Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team-focused attitude.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Unix or Linux (ability to navigate the system and modify files).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with developing UIs using JavaScript and other UI frameworks.
  • Familiar with Spring, Kafka, Kafka Stream.
  • Familiar with XML, Microservices, and Event Driven Architecture.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Familiar with Eclipse or IntelliJ IDE's, various plug-ins, Git, Maven, Nexus.
  • Understanding of the transportation/global logistics industry.
