About the position

The Associate Director of Accounting (Payroll) is a pivotal role within the Corporate Accounting team, specifically focusing on payroll operations. This position is responsible for providing both strategic and tactical leadership to ensure that payroll is processed accurately and on time. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of payroll accounting activities, payroll controls, and audits, as well as the ability to partner effectively with various departments to develop and implement corporate policies and processes related to payroll. In this role, the Associate Director will manage the weekly payroll processing, ensuring that all payroll activities are executed efficiently and in compliance with federal, state, and local tax guidelines. The position also involves providing timely and accurate reporting to both internal and external stakeholders, which is crucial for maintaining transparency and accountability in payroll operations. Additionally, the Associate Director will oversee SAP-related payroll configuration and system integrations, ensuring that all system updates and operational reports are completed accurately. The role also supports acquisition efforts by conducting payroll due diligence, gathering necessary data, and facilitating integration processes. The Associate Director will be responsible for resolving payroll-related issues that arise for team members, HR, management, and personnel at plant locations. This position is essential for ensuring that the company's payroll objectives align with industry benchmarks and that all payroll processes are consistent and compliant with applicable laws. Special projects may also be assigned as needed, providing opportunities for further contribution to the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Payroll Accounting Activities, Payroll Controls, and Audits.
  • Partner with other departments on new and existing corporate policies and processes.
  • Manage the weekly payroll processing.
  • Provide timely, complete, and accurate reporting to internal and external customers.
  • Manage SAP related payroll configuration and system integrations.
  • Complete system related updates and creation of operational reports.
  • Support acquisition efforts from a payroll due diligence, data gathering and integration prospective.
  • Resolve payroll related issues for team members, HR, management, and plant location personnel as needed.
  • Ensure Company objectives are met and in line with payroll industry benchmarks.
  • Ensure consistency and application of federal, state, and local tax guidelines.
  • Handle special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an academic field directly related and essential to this job (Accounting or Finance degree preferred).
  • 7+ years related experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze requirements and convert them to practical applications used with various payroll systems, payroll projects, controls, process flows, system/process integrations, accounting processes, etc.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred, but not required.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience with HR and payroll processes, payroll and labor laws, payment/deduction laws, garnishment and overpayment laws, multi-state/local and federal tax withholding and reporting, and SAP configuration is preferred, but not required.
