About the position

The Associate Director, Accounting is responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. This role involves overseeing the financial accounting division, ensuring compliance with policies, and preparing financial reports under the general direction of the Controller. The position requires managing tight deadlines and a variety of accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and audit preparation, while fostering a collaborative and equitable work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and supervise the work of financial reporting and general ledger accounting.
  • Oversee the posting and maintenance of general and subsidiary accounts, accounts payable, and receivable processing.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements.
  • Post accounting transactions, journal entries, accruals, and deferrals in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate monthly financial closing processes.
  • Assist in the development of the administrative line-item budget.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports with accompanying schedules and worksheets.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures.
  • Track and maintain company insurance policies and licenses.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly and year-end close processes.
  • Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Prepare for financial audits and assist in the coordination of the audit process.
  • Compile financial data for corporate tax reporting to comply with federal and state requirements.
  • Prepare periodic internal financial and statistical statements and reports.
  • Work collaboratively with others, both internally and externally to BHSB.
  • Uphold and operationalize the values of BHSB, including integrity, equity, innovation, collaboration, and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Four to six years of progressively responsible experience in the accounting field, preferably in the non-profit sector.
  • A minimum of three years supervisory experience is required.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Understanding of professional accounting principles and routine auditing procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to public fund accounting.
  • Ability to maintain general ledger accounts and prepare financial reports.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team member and multi-task effectively.
  • Fund accounting software knowledge is required; knowledge of Abila/Sage Accounting Software is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
