About the position

The Associate Director of Operations at Tarleton State University is a pivotal role within the Campus Recreation Department, reporting directly to the Director of Campus Recreation. This position is responsible for overseeing the facility operations and sport club programs, ensuring that all aspects of the Campus Recreation Center and associated facilities are managed effectively. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the administration of facility operations, coordination of custodial services, management of equipment maintenance, and oversight of special projects within the Campus Recreation Center, including the Esports Lounge and Fort Worth campus recreation facilities. The Associate Director will also handle facility reservations and ensure that all shared recreation facilities are utilized efficiently. This in-office position is located in Stephenville, Texas, and requires a flexible work schedule, including frequent evenings, weekends, and some holidays, particularly during peak periods. The Associate Director will be expected to work remotely at the request of the University, adapting to the needs of the department and the university community. The role demands strong leadership skills, as the Associate Director will provide guidance to a team of direct reports, including the Assistant Director of Facilities and the Assistant Director of Sports Clubs, as well as approximately 60 undergraduate employees. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in establishing departmental goals, objectives, and strategic plans, while also ensuring compliance with safety and risk management practices across all facilities. In addition to administrative duties, the Associate Director will be responsible for financial oversight, including the preparation and administration of a $300,000 budget for facilities and sport clubs. This includes forecasting income, monitoring fiscal year comparisons, and conducting program evaluations. The role also involves the procurement and maintenance of equipment necessary for the department's operations, ensuring that all facilities are equipped to meet the needs of students and staff alike. The Associate Director will also be tasked with developing and overseeing service contracts for technology and facility maintenance, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership as a senior staff member of the Department working directly with the Director to establish goals, objectives, and strategic plan.
  • Make departmental decisions and develop and implement staff, facilities, and programmatic policies and procedures for various program areas.
  • Hire, train, supervise, appraise, and recognize direct reports, including the Assistant Director of Facilities and Assistant Director of Sports Clubs.
  • Oversee all special events in facilities and special contracts.
  • Manage the Student Recreation Center, ensuring compliance with safety and risk management practices, facility inspections, and established university policies and procedures.
  • Assist with coordinating department strategic planning, including data collection and forecasting for major facility and program expansions.
  • Manage the facility master schedule, reservation and solicitation process, and risk management plans for Campus Recreation Center.
  • Attend regular University Risk Management meetings and review Facilities and Sport Clubs policies and procedures.
  • Forecast, prepare and administer $300,000 in revenue and expense budgets for Facilities and Sport Clubs.
  • Purchase and maintain large sport, fitness, programming, facility, custodial, camp, and maintenance equipment for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eight years of related experience in campus recreation or a similar field.
  • Thorough knowledge of campus recreation as demonstrated by a minimum of 2 years of full-time employment in a college or university level campus recreation program.
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED, First Aid certified, or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor Certification or ability to obtain within the first 90 days of hire.
