About the position

Wright State University is seeking an Associate Director of Career Advising Operations & Data Management to enhance the career and professional development needs of all students and alumni. This position is situated within the Division of Enrollment Management and reports directly to the Director of Career Education & Success. The Associate Director will play a pivotal role in supervising and leading the advising team, managing First Destination survey data, serving as the Handshake representative for student and alumni features, and overseeing the marketing and communications of career development data and activities. Additionally, the Associate Director will provide support for the Choose Ohio First grant, ensuring that the career center meets its mission effectively. In this leadership role, the Associate Director will be responsible for guiding the advising team, assisting Career Consultants in program design and management, career advising techniques, and targeted marketing to specific student groups. The position requires collaboration with Deans, academic departments, faculty, and other stakeholders to coordinate essential services that support students' personal, career, and professional preparation needs. The Associate Director will also assist the Director in expanding the department's efforts to identify and measure the outcomes of programs and services, particularly focusing on the First Destination Survey. The Associate Director will be expected to provide innovative leadership to the daily operations of the Career Center, supervise staff, develop strategic plans to improve team efficiency, and communicate the status of office operations to key stakeholders. They will also analyze career outcomes data, collaborate with Institutional Research on the First Destination Survey, and work with Marketing & Communications to effectively share student and alumni career development stories. Furthermore, the Associate Director will manage tools and technologies to streamline workflow and support the Choose Ohio First grant, ensuring that the Career Center operates smoothly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide innovative and effective leadership to the daily operations and administration of the Career Center.
  • Supervise and lead staff including mentoring, training, work assignments and overseeing productivity.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve team efficiency and effectiveness, and regularly communicate the status of office operations to key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Career Education to continuously create and improve the quality of career content and resources.
  • Oversee project management and marketing campaigns for major student career development events, initiatives, and programs.
  • Collaborate with the Director to hire, onboard, train, and manage a team of student staff, providing ongoing guidance and resources as needed.
  • Co-manage the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) process in collaboration with the UCIE, providing guidance and resources.
  • Serve as back-up career consultant providing advising to all students.
  • Analyze career outcomes data year-round to update and enhance career education resources and track effectiveness of efforts to support students.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research & Effectiveness on the First Destination Survey.
  • Work with Marketing & Communications to tell compelling stories about student/alumni career development.
  • Develop a marketing/social media communications strategy for student-related stories.
  • Manage tools and technologies to resolve issues and identify opportunities to better prioritize and streamline the team's workflow.
  • Provide support to the Choose Ohio First grant.
  • Manage the student service segments of Handshake.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Human Resources, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in career development, higher education, human resources, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge of career and student development theories.
  • Knowledge of career assessments.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a University Career office working with diverse student populations.
  • MBTI and/or Strong Interest Inventory certification.
  • Experience in data management.
  • Demonstrated experience of Excel and Qualtrics.
  • Experience utilizing Handshake.
