About the position

The Associate Director of Career Education at Moody College of Communication will lead initiatives to integrate career education into the college's curriculum and student advising. This role is pivotal in enhancing student success by providing career coaching, developing partnerships with faculty, and creating career development opportunities for students. The position requires a strong commitment to student engagement and collaboration with various stakeholders to foster a career-focused environment within the college.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of career coaches responsible for individual and group career coaching and advising of Moody College students.
  • Set goals, identify priorities, and maintain data to evaluate effectiveness of career advising operations.
  • Support up-to-date advising methods, state of the art tools and resources, and track advising needs and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate, design and deliver career development opportunities alongside faculty that teach Moody College's foundation courses and departmental introductory classes.
  • Support a career everywhere mindset in the college by fostering partnerships with faculty offering industry-focused courses and capstone classes.
  • Create consistent career awareness and career preparation for all students across Moody College.
  • Develop curriculum, prepare workshops and seminars, and deliver content across a variety of modalities.
  • Connect career preparation to the co-curricular in Moody by collaborating with students and organizations.
  • Collaborate across Moody to strengthen industry and employer partnerships through career education.
  • Support integration of employer relations and career advising through events, activities, and experiences designed to connect students to industries, employers, and partnerships that support internships and post-graduation employment opportunities.
  • Connect students to career experience opportunities across Moody College's employer ecosystem, including Texas Student Media.
  • Provide high quality, high-touch, and customer-service driven career advising and education to students across all Moody College of Communication majors.
  • Advise in a hybrid environment (in person and online), individually and/or in small groups on all phases of career development, including resume reviews, mock interviews, career exploration, and internship and job search strategies.
  • Maintain relationships with the career center leadership across campus.
  • Participate in campus-wide collaborations throughout the career ecosystem.
  • Serve on Moody College committees and/or university-wide committees as appropriate.
  • Fully participate in all Moody College of Communication signature events and programs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education, counseling or related field.
  • Four years of work experience in career services, higher education, or human resources role tied to corporate recruiting activities; or related work experience.
  • Experience coaching and supervising full-time employees.
  • Excellent resume writing, interviewing, and job search skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, effective oral and written communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to present effectively to large groups.
  • Excellent project management skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with communications or creative students as a career coach or relevant experience working in a related industry role with coaching/mentoring responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of corporate recruiting practices.
  • Knowledge of creative student career paths.
  • Experience presenting in groups at the college level.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop interactive exercises and apply effective presentation methods on topics related to careers and recruiting in classroom environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and/or other remote communication technologies.
