The Associate Director, Cloud Engineering (AWS) at S&P Dow Jones Indices plays a pivotal role in the Infrastructure Engineering team, focusing on the management and administration of the AWS Cloud environment utilized for running index applications. This position is designed for a seasoned engineer who is adept at working both independently and collaboratively within a team setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, security, and reliability of the cloud infrastructure, which is critical for the organization's operations. In this role, the Associate Director will administer various AWS infrastructure components, including compute, network, and storage resources. They will provision compute instances and manage resource utilization effectively to meet the demands of the applications hosted in the cloud. The position also involves engineering storage solutions and content replication strategies to ensure performance requirements are met, as well as establishing network solutions in AWS that connect seamlessly to data centers. The Associate Director will be tasked with developing scripts using Linux and Ansible to automate system configurations in the cloud environment. They will also be responsible for deploying security patches and upgrades on RedHat Linux Operating Systems, configuring essential services such as DNS, LDAP, syslog, and mail, and deploying RDS/Aurora database instances while coordinating with DBA teams. Additionally, the role includes deploying managed services in AWS for Kinesis, ElasticSearch, and API Gateway, as well as implementing Machine Learning solutions using AWS SageMaker. The position requires orchestration of container deployments using ECS and EKS, along with the implementation of systems monitoring and reporting solutions. The Associate Director will recommend hardware configurations and right-sizing of infrastructure, coordinate the implementation of firewall rules and routing changes, and investigate latency issues, network packet drops, and system performance problems. Addressing security vulnerabilities in the infrastructure is also a key responsibility, along with participating in risk assessment reviews and audits. Moreover, the Associate Director will implement highly available and fault-tolerant solutions to withstand system failures, maintain comprehensive documentation including network diagrams and installation configurations, and manage disaster recovery plans. They will also coordinate the change control process and respond to critical production issues, providing immediate workarounds to ensure business continuity.
