About the position

The Associate Director, Communications and Creative Services at the University of Delaware plays a crucial role in the Department of Athletics, Community & Campus Recreation. This position focuses on content creation, including written and video coverage of athletic teams and student-athletes, while also enhancing the department's storytelling through collaboration with various teams. The role requires creativity, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop unique and original content to increase brand recognition and promote events.
  • Manage the Communications editorial/content calendar.
  • Oversee day-to-day coverage of assigned sports across all platforms, including in-game.
  • Assist the Communications team with story mining efforts to develop a content catalog.
  • Share news, create conversations, and gather fan sentiment across key content outlets.
  • Provide event support through coverage as needed at assigned events.
  • Respond to department inquiries in a timely manner as a customer service representative.
  • Compile reports on coverage around major brand moments/events and advise on best practices.
  • Continuously assess storytelling strategies and apply industry practices while staying updated on trends.
  • Coordinate multiple projects around tight deadlines.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Sports Management or Multimedia preferred.
  • Proficiency in recording and editing video, Premiere, Spark and Photoshop is preferred.
  • Ability to evaluate and edit content across text and multimedia formats.
  • Experience managing, coordinating and motivating interns, volunteers and/or students.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software, specifically Photoshop, Premier Pro, and After Effects.
