About the position

The Associate Director, Creative Video at the University of Delaware is a pivotal role within the Department of Athletics, Community & Campus Recreation (DACCR). This position is dedicated to upholding the departmental mission of 'Achieving Excellence Together' and plays a crucial part in the post-production of video and multimedia services that provide both internal and external content. Reporting to the Senior Associate AD for External Relations, the Associate Director is responsible for the creative direction and production of video content that supports the University of Delaware Athletics and Community & Campus Recreation initiatives. In this role, the Associate Director will drive storytelling through video and multimedia content, ensuring distribution across various platforms including bluehens.com, social media, newsletters, and in-game digital displays. The position involves overseeing the production and development of social media video content, which includes hype pieces, behind-the-scenes features, and video reports. Collaboration with the communications team is essential to ideate creative storytelling angles that are modern and timely, promoting the Delaware Athletics brand effectively. The Associate Director will also provide comprehensive coverage of major events from a storytelling perspective, including Fandemonium, Season Kick-Offs, National Signing Days, and community outreach efforts. Responsibilities extend to creating, producing, and posting video features, conducting on-camera interviews, and supporting the development of broadcast and stream commercial spots. Coordination with corporate sales and Athletics Development is necessary to execute online deliverables and promote events. Additionally, the Associate Director will gather footage from home events and practices, edit photography and audio for digital platforms, and collaborate with the marketing department to advertise ticket promotions and events. The role includes distributing event highlights to regional media outlets to enhance Delaware Athletics' exposure. A key aspect of this position is the recruitment, training, and supervision of video production staff, including interns and student volunteers, while maintaining video archiving efforts and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Drive storytelling video and multimedia content for distribution across bluehens.com, social media, newsletters, and in-game digital displays.
  • Oversee the production and development of social media video content, including hype pieces, behind-the-scenes features, and video reports.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to ideate creative storytelling angles and content ideas that promote the Delaware Athletics brand.
  • Provide coverage of major events from a storytelling perspective, including Fandemonium, Season Kick-Offs, and National Signing Days.
  • Create, produce, and post video features, including conducting on-camera interviews and athletic-related video series.
  • Support the development of athletics broadcast and stream commercial spots.
  • Coordinate with corporate sales to execute online deliverables for corporate partners and with Athletics Development on event promotion.
  • Collaborate with the Social & Digital Director to create ideas to build brand awareness across digital channels.
  • Gather footage from Hens home events and practices for video use.
  • Edit photography and audio for BlueHens.com and social media.
  • Collaborate with marketing to advertise ticket promotions and events using digital and social media.
  • Distribute event highlights to regional media outlets for broadcast exposure.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate video production staff, including interns and student volunteers.
  • Maintain and support all video archiving efforts.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in post-production, preferably in athletics.
  • Feature and hype video editing experience.
  • Videography experience with knowledge of cinematic camera use for promotional and internal video.
  • Non-linear editing experience with Adobe Premiere.
  • Knowledge of computer/server components and their operation in a controlled network setting.
  • Knowledge of professional camera equipment and post-production highlights.
  • Ability to work on a broadcast truck in various positions, including director/producer and camera operation.
  • Knowledge of post-production software, edit styles, and music for promotional content.
  • Strong people skills to organize and train a workforce effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with NCAA and conference rules and regulations regarding compliance issues and film trade.
