About the position

The Associate Director, Creative at Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) plays a pivotal role in recruiting and assisting prospective writers and publishers. This position is based in the Nashville, TN office, where BMI has adopted a hybrid work model, requiring most team members to be in the office three days a week. The Associate Director will maintain a comprehensive understanding of BMI's role in the music industry, including its competitive landscape and how these factors affect BMI's writers and publishers. This role involves managing relationships with BMI affiliates, addressing inquiries regarding BMI policies, practices, and royalty payments, and explaining the services BMI provides to its affiliates. In addition to managing affiliate relationships, the Associate Director will establish and nurture connections with music industry executives, songwriters, artists, and tastemakers to secure future talent for BMI. The position requires presenting BMI programs to industry and community groups, facilitating connections between BMI affiliates and the broader music industry, and representing BMI at various music industry events. The Associate Director will also educate the music community about BMI's functions and act as a liaison between the Creative team and senior management, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. The role includes listening to new musical works submitted by affiliates, providing feedback to assist in marketing efforts, and analyzing affiliates' royalty income to project future earnings. The Associate Director will collaborate with senior executives on special projects, such as showcases and studies, and will support BMI's core values, fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion. Regular attendance and participation in various duties as assigned are also essential components of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and assist prospective writers and publishers to BMI.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of BMI's role in the music industry and its competitive pressures.
  • Manage relationships with BMI affiliates by addressing inquiries about policies, practices, and royalty payments.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with music industry executives and professionals.
  • Develop relationships with up-and-coming music professionals, songwriters, artists, and tastemakers.
  • Present programs to industry and community groups regarding BMI.
  • Facilitate relationships between BMI affiliates and the music industry by networking with professionals.
  • Attend music industry events as a representative of BMI.
  • Educate the music community on the role and function of BMI.
  • Act as a liaison between Creative team members and senior management.
  • Listen to new musical works submitted by affiliates and provide marketing assistance.
  • Analyze affiliates' royalty income to project future earnings.
  • Work with senior executives on special projects as requested.
  • Support BMI's core values and cultivate a culture of diversity and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the music industry.
  • Ability to analyze songs and music for commercial success.
  • Working knowledge of the song and music process from conception to hit status.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with database systems and reports, as well as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to establish constructive relationships with employees, management, writers, and publishers.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a diverse employee population.
  • Able to work independently and exercise good judgment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Strong typing and proofreading skills.
