About the position

The Associate Director of Development at the American Cancer Society is responsible for leading a team focused on managing a revenue portfolio that includes priority relationships, account management, events, and fundraising activities. This role is crucial in achieving significant income targets while integrating mission and advocacy efforts. The position emphasizes team leadership, community engagement, and the development of innovative fundraising strategies to support the organization's mission of fighting cancer.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of development staff responsible for substantial account and revenue portfolios.
  • Accountable for the team's achievement of significant revenue targets for priority relationships and fundraising activities.
  • Engages, recruits, stewards, trains, and manages relationships with volunteers and customers to execute fundraising plans.
  • Serves on the Market Leadership Team and contributes to strategic planning.
  • Manages volunteer and customer retention, recognition, and pipeline development.
  • Develops relationships with target partners, organizations, corporations, and individuals.
  • Implements best practices for revenue growth and adjusts strategies based on customer feedback.
  • Monitors financial expenditures and progress to budget, ensuring high return on investment.
  • Creates best-in-class experiences for priority constituents, including participants and sponsors.
  • Collaborates with development team members and other departments to maximize success.
  • Ensures compliance with ACS policies regarding employment, risk management, and financial controls.
  • Models and fosters a culture that values staff and volunteer partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of related experience, preferably in a multi-million dollar organization.
  • Past staff management experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Proven relationship building and persuasion skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and experience in resolving issues.
  • Ability to monitor and adjust activities to meet goals and mitigate risks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in project management.
