About the position

The Associate Director in Discovery Toxicology at Bristol-Myers Squibb plays a crucial role in the Pharmaceutical Candidate Optimization organization, focusing on identifying and addressing toxicology issues across discovery programs. This position involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the advancement of high-quality drug candidates into development, utilizing expertise in drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, and toxicology.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and develop plans for evaluating potential toxicity of new drug targets.
  • Apply appropriate models and testing strategies that inform on mechanisms of toxicity, addressing relevance to humans.
  • Design, conduct, interpret toxicology studies within drug discovery and communicate results across multiple disciplines.
  • Participate in drug discovery teams as a toxicology expert, communicating issues and experimental strategies for resolution.
  • Contribute to the collective research expertise in Discovery Toxicology, including laboratory efforts to advance new tools for mechanistic toxicology research.
  • Discuss and enable the transition of drug candidates into the BMS Development organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of academic/industry experience, or Master's Degree with 10+ years, or PhD with 8+ years of academic/industry experience and 4+ years of leadership experience.
  • A Ph.D. in toxicology or related field with postdoctoral experience and 8+ years in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in drug discovery.
  • Broad-based knowledge of toxicology, emphasizing molecular mechanisms of toxicity.
  • Experience in computational toxicology, systems pharmacology, or metabolism-mediated toxicity.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an enterprise mindset and patient-focused values.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in designing in vivo studies across species.
  • Demonstrable skill set in design and implementation of mechanistic toxicology studies.
