About the position

The Associate Director for Finance and Research Administration in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences is responsible for overseeing financial planning, research administration, and financial operations within the Physics Department. This role involves providing strategic financial guidance, managing budgets, ensuring compliance with regulations, and supervising a team of financial professionals. The position serves as a liaison between the department and various university committees, ensuring that the department's interests are represented effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all financial planning and analysis efforts for the Physics Department.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director to meet departmental goals.
  • Coordinate annual budget and quarterly re-forecast processes.
  • Update and refine short- and long-range financial projections.
  • Review and execute endowment allocations and create annual financial reports.
  • Direct research administration for Physics faculty and maintain oversight of a team responsible for sponsored grants and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and university policies regarding sponsored funds.
  • Direct financial operations including procurement, accounts receivable, and payroll.
  • Implement new financial systems and establish appropriate accounting practices.
  • Manage and mentor the Assistant Director for Research Administration and other finance team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 8 years' relevant work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of sponsored research regulations.
  • Supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or Master's degree in relevant field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of advanced financial principles, budget management, and financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
