About the position

The Associate Director, Global Risk at the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) will lead the Global Risk team, focusing on critical issues at the intersection of artificial intelligence, nuclear weapons, and national security. This role involves managing projects, mentoring staff, and collaborating with external partners to influence public policy and advance FAS's mission. The position requires strong project management skills, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, develop, and manage the full life cycle of project plans related to global risk.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring strong coordination and collaboration.
• Coach and manage staff, particularly the Global Risk Project Associate, to support their growth and development.
• Cultivate and manage grants and fundraising efforts for the global risk portfolio.
• Communicate complex information effectively to the public and policy community.
• Collaborate with the FAS Nuclear Information Project and other teams as needed.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in public policy, particularly in government or think tanks.
• Demonstrated expertise in global risk issues, including AI, biological and nuclear weapons, and national security.
• Strong project management experience with a proven track record of success.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
