About the position

The Associate Director, Global Risk at the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) will lead the Global Risk team, focusing on critical issues at the intersection of artificial intelligence, nuclear weapons, biological sciences, and military autonomy. This role involves managing projects, mentoring staff, and collaborating with various stakeholders to influence public policy and advance FAS's mission. The position requires strong project management skills, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the ability to communicate complex information effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, develop, and manage the full life cycle of project plans related to global risk.
  • Manage and coach the Global Risk Project Associate to support their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with the FAS Nuclear Information Project and other teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Cultivate and manage grants and fundraising efforts for the global risk portfolio.
  • Build relationships and meet with federal government officials in Washington, DC.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in public policy, particularly in government or think tanks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in global risk issues such as artificial intelligence, nuclear weapons, and cybersecurity.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey complex information effectively.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
