About the position

At Carvana, we are on a mission to revolutionize the car buying experience, and our Human Resources Operations team plays a crucial role in this journey. The Associate Director of Human Resources Operations will lead the strategy and execution of company-wide HR operations and initiatives, focusing on employee relations and investigations. This position is pivotal in ensuring that our team members are supported and empowered to deliver an exceptional experience to our customers. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven track record in continuous improvement and team leadership. In this role, you will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of the HR Operations team. You will be responsible for creating and continuously improving efficient, standardized, and scalable departmental processes and procedures. Collaboration is key, as you will partner with People Operations, Legal teams, and department leaders on change management initiatives, ensuring effective communication and understanding of policies and procedures across the organization. Your expertise will guide department leadership in navigating complex HR issues, ensuring compliance with federal and state employment laws, and fostering a positive workplace culture. As the Associate Director, you will establish strong working relationships with internal business partners, driving successful cross-functional efforts aligned with company values. You will oversee policies and processes to meet both legal and business obligations, ensuring that our HR practices support the overall objectives of Carvana. This position is based in-person at our Headquarters in Tempe, AZ, and requires a strong understanding of our operations and processes to effectively manage the HR Operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the HR Operations team, focusing on employee relations and investigations.
  • Lead efforts to create and continuously improve efficient, standardized, and scalable departmental processes and procedures.
  • Partner with People Operations and Legal teams on change management initiatives, ensuring effective adoption and understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Provide consultation, recommendations, and policy-based guidance to department leadership.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance teams to interpret company policies and state and federal employment laws.
  • Communicate regularly with department leaders on HR programs and practices in support of company objectives.
  • Establish positive working relationships with internal business partners to drive successful cross-functional efforts.
  • Ensure policies and processes meet both legal and business obligations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive Human Resources management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in leading people and teams.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong understanding of applicable federal and state employment laws and government agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices and processes.
  • Proven track record of effective strategic thinking and analytical decision making.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and delivering workable solutions.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to handle sensitive information with integrity.
