About the position

The Associate Director of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) at the University of Louisville is responsible for overseeing the operations and development of the ISSS office. This role includes serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to ensure compliance with federal regulations for international students and scholars. The position emphasizes collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance the experience of F-1 and J-1 visa holders, providing essential services such as advising on visa status, employment authorization, and cultural adjustment programs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) to provide excellent customer service for international students, scholars, and their dependents.
  • Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), ensuring compliance with F and J visa regulations.
  • Oversee SEVIS processing using Terra Dotta's ISSS module and batch processing solution.
  • Interpret regulations governing international students, including employment benefits for OPT and CPT, and manage changes of status and transfers.
  • Advise and advocate for the international student and scholar population, enhancing their experience at the University.
  • Develop and implement programs to assist students with cultural and academic adjustments.
  • Manage the ISSS website and social media platforms to promote recruitment and provide resources.
  • Lead international student orientation and oversee additional programming for international students.
  • Collaborate with campus offices to effectively serve international students.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all international students and scholars.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) in a college or university setting.
  • Experience working in PeopleSoft, Terra Dotta, and SEVIS.
  • Experience studying, living, or working abroad.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in management and supervision.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Extensive experience in administering sponsored international student programs and exchanges.
  • Active participation in relevant professional associations such as NAFSA.
  • Strong computing skills and expertise with university systems.
