About the position

The Associate Director of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University plays a crucial role in supporting over 1,300 international students, scholars, faculty, and staff. This position involves overseeing immigration processes, advising services, and outreach for non-immigrant students, ensuring compliance with F-1 and J-1 visa regulations. The role includes serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 students and assisting the Director as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 visa program, while also developing policies that align with the university's strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, enter, and submit student data into DHS Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and prepare documents for students and scholars.
  • Assist the registration process each semester.
  • Present the J1 and ERLI immigration orientation presentation.
  • Maintain the online immigration presentation by adding to the Canvas course the ISSS hold if the course is not completed by the student.
  • Support the maintenance and updating of data for each qualifying event requiring SEVIS reporting.
  • Assist in processing requests from ICE via SEVIS for program changes and student record corrections.
  • Collaborate with the director on the advisement of students regarding F1 visa holders, including guidance on federal immigration regulations and resolving complex application and compliance issues.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in student advising, specifically for F-1 and J-1 visas.
  • Interpret and analyze internal University policies while aligning with federal immigration regulations.
  • Train, mentor, and oversee aspects of onboarding new ISSS team members.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of workshops and other educational programs that support communication and customer service, orientation, and retention.
  • Support departmental programming for international students and scholars, promoting their full participation and integration into the University community.
  • Design and execute programs and processes aligned with current strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of related work experience, including graduate assistantships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently on multiple complex tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing and new work assignments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with diverse audiences including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft operating systems including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to relate well to and motivate students.
  • Ability to speak and present to various internal and external audiences.
  • Planning and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of collaborative and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to mentor students.
