About the position

The Associate Director, Medical Diagnostics at AstraZeneca plays a crucial role in transforming oncology through the development and delivery of strategic plans focused on lung cancer biomarkers and diagnostics. This position involves contributing to scientific strategies, coordinating pre-launch activities, ensuring the accuracy of medical materials, and supporting cross-functional medical coordination. The role is integral to the USMA Lung Medical Diagnostics team, reporting to the Senior Director, and requires a strong background in diagnostics and oncology.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to establishing and implementing scientific imperatives, narratives, and strategies for precision oncology launches.
  • Support the Launch Readiness Reviews (LRR) by coordinating and tracking pre-launch activities and ensuring timely execution of the endorsed LRR plan.
  • Develops and refines processes for approving diagnostics materials as a guide or project manager.
  • Supports Senior Director and Regional Directors in synthesizing recurring field insights reports.
  • Provides support on Advisory Boards execution including communications and collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Coordinates external engagement with HQ and identifies Key External Experts with support from the Medical Lead.
  • Ensures scientific and medical accuracy of outgoing materials, research protocols, and external publications.
  • Adheres to all required ethical and compliance standards as determined by the organization.
  • Supports cross-functional medical coordination and follow-up on deliverables from different functions.
  • Provides congress support by contributing to the congress planning playbook.

Requirements

  • Advanced Medical/Scientific degree (Masters) in diagnostics and/or pharmaceutical medical affairs (field or HQ).
  • 3+ years of combined experience in Oncology (clinical or research oncology) in industry or academic settings, ideally related to diagnostics and biomarkers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctorate scientific or medical degree (MD or PhD).
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of the evolving diagnostic and pathology landscape.
  • Understanding of the diagnostic FDA environment with hands-on experience in clinical laboratories (CAP/CLIA lab work experience).
  • Proven experience in immunohistochemistry technologies and digital pathology tools for AI-driven image analysis algorithms.
  • Experience with development, application, and evidence generation planning of novel biomarkers or diagnostics platforms (e.g., liquid biopsy).
  • Track record of effective management of internal and external decision-making bodies involving cross-functional partners.
  • Proven project management experience in the industry.
  • Knowledge and experience in medical strategy/affairs with emphasis on diagnostics launches.
