About the position

The Associate Director, Metadata Management and Data Governance at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute plays a crucial role in supporting the strategic vision and implementation of core metadata platforms and processes. This position is responsible for enabling users to discover, understand, access, trust, and utilize data and analytics assets effectively. The role involves collaboration with various teams to design and develop metadata solutions that support high-impact strategic initiatives, ensuring secure and simplified data consumption across the Institute. Additionally, the Associate Director leads a team of 2-5 employees, fostering their development and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with users across the Institute to understand goals and requirements for metadata management.
  • Collaborate with the Strategy & Architecture team to develop a comprehensive metadata management strategy.
  • Design solution architecture for technical and enriched metadata consumption.
  • Evaluate current metadata technology stack and lead proof-of-concept engagements with new vendors.
  • Develop a comprehensive program roadmap and workstream project plans for strategic transformation.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive metadata catalog for data discovery and usage.
  • Lead critical workstreams, manage timelines, and coordinate working groups.
  • Establish and document data governance processes and policies in partnership with stakeholders.
  • Conduct pilots of new approaches to optimize data governance processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to meet their needs and expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in data governance and metadata management, analytics and AI, or related roles.
  • 3+ years of experience in biomedical, healthcare, healthtech, or life sciences industries.
  • Extensive hands-on skills in enterprise data catalog platforms such as Informatica, Collibra, or Alation.
  • 3+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Demonstrated data platform experience with expertise in data engineering and data warehouse management.
